Started as Modern Apprentice, and moved on to the position of Production/Workshop Manager. Then further to Project Manager. Fully qualified to CSCS requirements. This often includes liaising with councils, engineers, architects etc.” Maintaining and improving the IT based procedures. “I endeavour to achieve and maintain the highest standard both within business and personal situations. Highly motivated, with a keenness to succeed. This, I feel is reflected within my role and progression within the company.”
Sarah Carr – Designer/Artist
I originally studied General Art & Design, specialising in Surface Design, this led onto a HND in Architectural Stained Glass. “Most Clients who visit our Showroom/Design Studio, need assistance and advice when planning their project, they may have a vision, and we simply need to interpret this. Others have a space to fill, but have no idea what is possible or available. In helping Clients, and offering advice, we also need to visualise the influence of different elements such as; light, reflections, heat etc.” “Years of working with design and glass, have given me the experience to interpret the interaction of all these different elements.” “I have spent most of my life, being fascinated by pattern, colour, and shape. I can often be found taking photos of an interesting wall, taking a rubbing of a drain cover, collecting samples of peeling paint and so on. Design doesn’t switch off when I am at home, I am always working on my own projects; Tapestry, Mosaic, Quilting, or Photography.”
Barbara Brookes – Designer/Artist
Involved at the very beginning of the company, recently returned to work after a gap of several years raising two children through their early years. A Graduate of Cleveland College of Art & Design in Textiles and Surface Pattern, worked previously as a freelance textile designer, before transferring these skills to designing and working with Glass. “My role starts with taking a brief or instruction from the Client, and turning it into a design to be produced, liaising very closely along each step of this process.” “I am passionate about design; it gives me the opportunity to express myself. Sometimes it can be total self indulgence working with a blank sheet; however, I also enjoy working to the strictest of design briefs. The reward is a clients’ delight when the work is presented to them.”
Richard Wiley - Production Manager

“After early diversions in my career, including an interesting period in a call centre, I started a Glass Craft Apprenticeship, have moved through several roles including Production Team Leader.” “Now Production manager, with ultimate responsibility for the quality of our work, however we collectively see this as all our responsibilities. We do have very effective procedures in which quality is an integral part of every stage.” “Main motivation at present is modernising my home, however, this has been slowed down by the arrival of our first child, and luckily I finished the nursery in time.” Completed an NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Glass processing plus many other industry related courses. Fully qualified to CSCS requirements. Currently undergoing a foundation degree in management and leadership at Teesside University.
Claire Gunn – Administration / Finance
"I joined the company in 2008 coming from a background of accounts and administration and experience of working within the glass industry. With 7 GCSE's and NVQ Level 2 & 3 in Business Administration. My main duties are to assure the smooth running of SAGE, however I don't see my role within the company as limited to this department and enjoy getting involved with marketing projects and customer relations. It is very rewarding to be part of a team that have proven to be hard working and conscientious at the same time as being very approachable and firm."
